CALL FOR PAPER

The Twelfth Annual Conference of the Ethiopian Society of Sociologists, Social Workers and Anthropologists (ESSSWA) is planned to be held on January 22 and 23, 2016. The theme of the conference will be: “Attaining Sustainable Development Goals in GTP2 by Ensuring the Protection of Children from Abuse and the Social Benefits of Citizens”.

Accordingly, this high level conference is expected to provide participants with wealth of knowledge and information in three major focus areas, i.e. Violence Against Children, Disadvantaged Social Groups and Good Practices in the Field.

Focus Area One: Preventing Violence Against Children

• Social Protection Policy and Promoting the best Interest of Children,
• Child-family heads and out of school children,
• Children’s sexual abuse, exploitation and manifestations,
• Children on the “move” , trafficked, migrated, accompanied /unaccompanied,
• Children on the street
• Bonded, exploitive child labor and violence against children,

Focus Area Two: Disadvantaged Social Groups

• Coping strategies and households’ resilience in drought and emergency situations,
• Social security of persons with disabilities
• Social security of older people,
• Social barriers and socio-cultural practices of minority groups (occupational and other minorities),

Focus Area Three: Good Practices;

• Child agency and participation of children in matters that affect their lives,
• Promoting social equality and inclusive approaches,
• Protection from violence against children and women,
• Social Capital formation and community-based structures (CCCs),
• The role of mid-level social service workers in addressing community needs.

Time Frame

The call for conference papers pursues the following time frame proposed for all linked activities.

• The conference will be held on 22^ndand 23^rdof January 2016.
• Abstracts not more than 250 words should be submitted to ESSSWA by 5 December 2015.
• Selected abstracts will be notified to prepare a draft paper by 15^th December 2016
• Deadline for submitting draft paper and ppt presentation to ESSSWA is by15^th January 2016.
